Created on: June 19, 2008

Have you ever placed your keys somewhere and then forgot where you put them? Or tried to remember names, dates, or even phone numbers, and came up blank, and the harder you thought, the more frustrated you got. How about this one. Have you ever forgotten where you parked your car, and then walked around the parking lot looking for it? It's not only embarrassing you start to wonder if your head is screwed on right. You start to question yourself. You may think there is no help. Luckily, there is light at the end of the tunnel. There are ways to boost your memory. Just like the body needs exercise to get it into peak physical condition, your brain needs to be exercised too to keep it running smoothly. How do I train my brain you ask? Well, that's what we are going to find out. There are many ways to boost your memory, some include, memorization tricks and tools, exercises and games, adding certain foods and nutrients to your diet, avoiding certain foods, and improving your mental and physical state.

Memorization Tricks and Tools - Mnemonics

There are several tricks and tools you can use to boost your memory. Using mnemonics (memory aids) is one-way. Some of these include using connections, talking to yourself, using physical reminders, repetition, grouping items and numbers, using stories, rhymes, and acronyms, outlining, and drawing.

Connections - Using connections is simply a way to connect the dots. You associate names, dates, places, that correlate to the answer you are trying to think of. The more you can associate the better chance you have at remembering the correct answer. For instance, you are trying to remember the name of someone from your college days. The name is on the tip of your tongue. You can picture the person, but the name still eludes you. Your thoughts start racing, as your memory banks start to pull up information, bits at a time. Just when you think you can't remember, a name pops into your head. I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me. I start piecing things together, and bingo a name, date, or place pops into my head like magic.

Talking To Yourself - People may look at you a little funny if you start talking to yourself, but talking to yourself may help you to remember better, by helping you to reinforce your memory. For example, you leave your car in the parking garage, lot A, stall seven, level four by the blue elevator. You would say this out loud. This helps to imprint this on your mind, and you are more likely to remember
