The birthday of a nation gone astray

by Michael Zaphah

Created on: June 19, 2008

The Rustling of leaves last winter was things helping me remembered most of all what I wanted to forget. I was unemployed homeless and a disabled veteran. As I walk through the part at Winfield Park last winter. I had decided to go walk over early to warm myself at the Sierra Medical Veterans Hospital.
As I was walking into the hospital, I started watching the news channel. I began thinking about how bad the economy was getting with gas price up, global warming, and the wars and rumor of wars I saw in that small minute.

I spend six years in the United States Marines Corps, and I now wonder what was I protecting. I became a roaming gypsy going from town to town unnoticed, and I felt that we became spoiled brats as I watched each family, city, and town practically doing the same thing by celebrating the 4th of July much like every other red-blooded American. The towns and cities of the America haven't really changed seen the eighteenth century (well okay we have the internet and computers), and things aren't the same as I use too see them as child when I grew up in the sixties and seventies.
The cook-outs in the park with the home made ice cream, the fire-works, and parades. I had been all over America remembering how each stated celebrated the four of July. The cold feeling of being told to leave the town or face jail time for trespassing even while carrying a walking stick as lethal weapon. As I see the police of many urban, towns and cities violate other homeless veterans and minority men and women's rights.
Seeing Democrats and Republican say that they are controlling the hearts and minds of we the people. When they only search for ways to fill their pockets with corporate funding of another Vietnam re-run. The government is not getting smaller, but it's very much resembles the movie Star Wars as our country is just a hair trigger from being a police state. The government makes its veterans jump through red tap hoops to get his pay, while they raise and low the taxes collected like a Roman publican.
Special interest groups whine by saying that we should control the average good citizen from owning a gun to protect themselves; while ninety year old women have to stab robbers with crocheting needles or are beaten down by thugs in the hall ways. The United States of America is at a historic crossroad when we shall either elected the same Grand Old Party good ole' boy's, or vote for the first African American President.
