I have several cats. Two mothers, eight kittens. One adult male. His name is Colby Jack. I got him when he was about six to seven weeks old. He is now two years old. He is the love of my life. Don't get me wrong, I love all of my cats. I am an absolute cat lover. My husband hates them but he is good enough to let me keep them, especially my Colby.
He is solid black(as you can see I am not superstitious). He has beautiful dark green eyes and the way he holds them it makes you think that he is a mellow cat. You know how most cats look like they are always scared(I have one)? Not my Colby Jack. He is a calm and collected type cat. He is a good mouser also. He is especially fond of ground squirrels!
He knows when I am upset. He has a way of being there for me. Just me holding him makes me feel calmer.
When I first got him, he was shy and kept hiding. I got him from my sister-in-law. I couldn't catch him. My daughter had to catch him. I had had a couple of his uncles in previous years and I knew his grandmother was a good cat so I knew he would be a good one also. I was right. His uncle, the first cat I had owned with my husband, had died from a cat disease and it ripped me up. I had had a good relationship with him also. My Colby has been a wonderful replacement to his uncle.
There is such a bond between me and him that I don't have with my other felines. When I hold Colby, he gets so relaxed that he sticks his tongue out and drools. He prefers my left shoulder and will not rest on my right. He has a way of telling me he loves me by cooing when he meows. When I go to pick him up, he raises up into my arms to let me know he wants held. I tell him "Colby, let mama hold you" and I reach down and he raises in my arms.
You know how cats generally catches and brings their catch to the door? My Colby does that. I call them his love gifts. I have never awarded him for his catches but I have always told him that he was a good boy. Let me tell you just how much my little boy loves me. Last year I had my sliding door open in my bedroom to keep it cool. My Colby had discovered that it was open and decided to sleep with me. I loved it. I thought that he had been in bed all night. About three in the morning I woke up and felt that Colby was still there by my side. I turned over and my leg hit something moist. I thought maybe he had accidentally peed my bed so I reached down to feel and it was a body. It was a freshly killed little mouse. My Colby Jack went out and killed that mouse and brought it to me as a love gift and that is when I found out just how much he loved me. I didn't get mad at him. I just stroked him and told he was a good boy and thank-you for the love gift. Colby Jack is truly my favorite cat.
