Do sales people sell? Of course they do or they would not be making a living at it! And the same holds true for the customer, they buy. This is like asking the question; "Which came first the chicken or the egg?" Well, it does make one ponder some when thought of this way.
So if a person is sitting in their home and someone knocks at the door with a suitcase and greets the person that answers the door, with a twenty thousand dollar smile, what are you supposed to do? Of course you invite them in, but only after you check credentials of course. Now, it is a lazy day and nothing was going on except a soap opera, and you just needed to have some company. You weren't thinking of buying anything special. But, then here comes this young college kid trying to put himself through school, and here you are Mrs.Bleeding Heart. And of course you must do your part in making sure the census is filled in your local community college, so you let him go through his routine.
He pulls out this brush and tells you it is made from the finest of sable, and that it will collect more dust than any attachment you could possibly have under your sink. Then he has your attention and tells you wait a minute. He rushes out the back door and brings in this thing that looks like an upside down bucket with a lid on it, and tells you it is the best sweeper on the market. And what is more he can prove it too.
You are all enthralled in his enthusiasim and his cute looks, and you just keep letting him go through the motions, never dreaming that you could even afford one of these types of vacuums. So now he has a light and tells you to look where he just swept with your sweeper and tells you look at all this dust still left in the air. You are shocked because you just ran yours a half an hour ago, and this much dust and dirt could not be left in your clean carpet. Then he tells you to sit down because he is going to show you something amazing.
You are all beside yourself, maybe your husband is right when he is telling you that you need to brush up on your house cleaning abilities some. But, you have to hear this kid out now. He than tells you that he can show you how much dirt is still in your carpet, and remember he just ran your own sweeper over the very spot he was going to do for you again with his machine. You look at him and almost in tears, tell him that he could not possibly have a vacuum that is going to outclean the work you had done earlier, and he had done once himself. Now, he is going to out do the job both of you did with this funny looking machine? No way you are thinking to yourself. Then he loosens his tie and asks you to go fill up the sweeper with water to the level he shows you. You do and then return to see what he is about to show you. Then he looks at you and says: "You don't believe me or what this machine is going to do, do you?" You shrug your shoulders in a cutsy way and jesture a, no.
Then he turns on this machine and runs over the area both of you just did, and you once before he ever knocked on your door! He kept saying, "Look at the water it is lifting the dirt right out of that carpet and look at that muddy water." And before you know it....you are under contract to buy one. So now which came first? The salesman trying to sell his wares? Or the lady that just cleaned her home and had a young man knock on her door selling his goods? And she just went from a homemaker to a customer, all in a days work from both of them.
