Avoiding communication disasters in marriage

Communication is key in surviving marriage. How ironic is it that in a world filled with so much technoligical advancement there is less communication than ever.

First and foremost, remember why you got married in the first place. Remember how you felt on that day and all the reasons you believed were true that led you to say "i do". Don't take your relationship for granted. Don't get too comfortable. Don't forget how to be POLITE.

In a marriage we can sometimes lose this very small detail of what we are taught growing up, our manners.

Listen avidly, really listen. Just the other day my husband was talking to me and I found myself saying "right", "yes", "uh-huh" and really believed that I was in a conversation. Then he sat there and stared me, asked me to reaffirm what he just said. I felt embarrassed. I couldn't believe that I honestly had no idea what he was talking about.

As much as we all want to believe that putting others needs before our own comes easily, it isn't. There is selfishness in all of us. Think of those times you were in an argument and all you wanted was to be heard. Come on, we all have that "what about me?" in us. Try and hear what your partner has to say without interruption. Then after, make a legite and honest comment on what was said.

RESOLVE any issue first hand and don't let it wait until the next day. The next day may very well not come.
