Children love the Fourth of July as they have all day and part of the night to play games when celebrating their freedom. Most Independence Day celebrations can last from noon until ten at night. With that much time in between, the amount of games should be plenty as described below.
Kids love games and when it comes to toddlers, games can be as simple as 'Duck Duck Goose'. Gather the toddlers and place them into a circle. As one person goes around the circle, they tap a child upon the head saying 'Duck' or 'Goose'. When they say Duck, that means little as they just walk on to the next child yet when they say Goose, the person that had their head tapped onto must go around the outside of the circle and try to tag the person before they reach the empty spot where the child sat. The one rule that should be enforced would be 'not to run but to walk fast'. This is a safe way for a toddler to play. Some of the older children may enjoy playing this as well.
The 'High Five' game is the easiest and can be done by all ages. When a child holds up their hand, they say 'high five' as the other child taps their hand giving them a high five. Then the child says 'to the side' as they hold their hand sideways and the other child taps the hand sideways. At last, the child places the hand down and says 'down below' and as the other child is reaching down to tap it as swift as they can, they try to move their hand away as fast as they can. If a child misses the hand, the one who moved it says, 'much too slow'. But if the child taps the hand, it is their turn to be the 'High Five' guy or gal.
A great game to play on July 4th would be volleyball. The layout consists of a net or a string tied between two tall objects such as trees. The players can draw their own boundary lines to create a 'court' and all they would need is a volleyball. Each player must tap the ball over the net, or string. Children like this game because it is very easy and fun to play depending on the height of the net. This game is a sport so bringing extra water on this hot July afternoon.
Another game enjoyed would be horseshoes. Separate two posts, pegs or sticks at least twenty feet away from each other and toss a horseshoe to the other side onto the post. Children usually watch adults play this game yet with proper supervision and use, the children would love it just as much as the adults. And with Toys R Us, one could find a horseshoe set that is safe to use for children
