Video games and the cycle of blame for society's behavior

Society always needs something to blame other than itself, as others have mentioned blaming video games for everything that goes wrong today is effectively passing the buck. To many would rather avoid the issue than admit they may be at fault. Where might I ask do the game designers get the ideas from in the first place? You only have to turn on the news.

Governments, parents, schools all want to pin the blame on any other thing than admit it may be there fault. The disregard that the human race has for each other started before video games came along, video games just point out the glaring faults in society by expressing them in a game.

Most of the people who get involved in things like shootings and other crimes have more often than not never picked up a controller. If they had they'd never have found the time to go out and get into trouble because they would have been to gripped by what they were doing trying to complete the level. (one minute it's 8pm next its 2am)

Yes we could complain about the content of the game but really they have age restrictions on them and it is the parents responsibilty to make sure their kids aren't playing something they shouldn't. We don't even allow ours to watch let alone play games that aren't for their age group. The unfortunate fact is to many parents don't teach their children the difference between reality and fiction, what is right and wrong. They buy their children the consoles and games and leave them to get on with it rather than spending time with them. That's why there is a breakdown in society. Governments have taken the authority to disciple away from schools resulting in lack of respect from kids and kids walking all over them.

Because society has broken down to such an extent that there is no regard for life anymore it is easier to blame the game than the ones that caused it in the first place, games mimic life, life doen't mimic games, maybe if a few more people played games they wouldn't need to be going off fighting wars that governments started in a bid to look like they were doing something useful.

And how many I would like to know of these people who blame the video game have actually every sat down and played one? If they had they'd see it is nothing like they make out it to be, yes some games are violent but thus far of all the ones I've played there has been a story behind it, because like a good book or a decent film a game worth playing has to have a decent story. It is life that generates the senseless violence.

No the root cause of society's bad behaviour is not the video game, it is the gradule lack of respect that has worsened with each generation, the lack of control of ones emotions. The general ignorance, failure to listen and the jumping to the wrong conclusions that has caused the behaviour in society not only in the US but every where.
