How to tell if your house is haunted

how populated the Black Hope had been, or known some of the graves didn't have traditional headstones.

The Haney's and many others from their neighbor fled their homes unable to deal with either the supernatural activity or the reality of living in homes built on top of graves. Many felt if Black Hope was haunting them then the ghosts were justified. The Haney's sued the builders of the subdivision and initially won, but a judge later overturned the decision.

Hopefully, if you suspect your home is ghost ridden the outcome will be better. There aren't any hard and fast rules to say whether a house is haunted or not, nor is there a rulebook on how you should handle former occupants who don't want to leave no matter how deceased they might be.

Certain signs show up again and again in reports of haunting. If you're concerned about a possible haunting you should investigate and rule out alternative causes for each of these signs.

Cold spots are areas within a home often several degrees lower in temperature then the rest of the house. The theory for colds spots has to do with the amount of energy a disembodied entity would need to manifest or have any effect on the physical world. In other words a ghost makes the spot cold by sucking up energy so it can keep you up all night making spooky noises. Or it could be a problem with your home's insulation, heating or cooling units. You should check out the latter first before really considering the former as a possibility.

The strange noises most often reported are footsteps, banging noises, and voices from nowhere, popping sounds, laughter, and crying. The oddest common report is the phantom party noise. Many haunted folks have claimed to hear what sounds like the muffled murmured of a large group of people, the click of plates and glasses and music while no such event is taking place. Look for possible places where the noises might be 'leaking' into your home. Vents can bring an echoing conversation straight to your ear, and likewise an underground pipe can make you an involuntary eavesdropper. Check out your environment thoroughly before determining your unexpected noises aren't from this world.

Mischief making with household objects is another common sign. An object usually carried like car keys, bus tokens, or jewelry goes missing. You search everywhere and find no sign of the missing bits and pieces until days or weeks later when they show up back on the coffee table you've searched a few hundred times. You might leap
