hard drive system has no real limits at all. However they are much bulkier and more prone to breaking than flash systems.
This leads me to the often overlooked issue of battery capacity. There are two main battery types: rechargable and AAA batteries. AAA batteries can get very expernsive if you plan on using your MP3 player frequently, but the cost for rechargeable battery powered MP3s is more upfront. If you can afford the more expensive rechargable battery option it will save you a lot of money over the long haul.
Either way it is important to note that flash drive memory systems use about half as much power as hard drive systems so if you do not need much storage space (35 GBs or under) then this should be your first choice. Using your MP3 to watch movies also takes up a lot more energy than just playing music so if you plan on doing a lot of that you might want to look into flash players with more powerful batteries. The batteries are recharged through a device that plugs into an electrical outlet. The lifespan of rechargeable batteries is anywhere from five to seventy five hours so it is important to ask around about this before making a purchase, because this is usually one of the few things not listed on the box.
One other thing you need to be concerned about is sound quality. Most MP3 players come with a pair of internal earbud headphones that are usually very poor. Be prepared to buy your own earbuds from a third party provider to enhance audio transmission.
One touch that I love is the units that can synchronize with the audio collection stored on your computer's hard drive. This saves you an infinite amount of time having to reshuffle them into position manually. If you do not have much patience or if you just want to save time in general this feature is a must have.
The quality of the display screen is important. Luckily you can test this out right at the store with no problem. Make sure the screen is wide enough and the display bright enough that you can clearly make out all information and images with no problem. Few things are more frustrating than trying to decipher what is being projected onto your display screen, so make testing this out one of your top priorities.
Make sure to decide on what additional features you want in your device before going to the store. If you have radio stations you like make sure to look for a model with a radio tuner. Some models allow you to access the Internet, a must have for browsing the web on the fly. Video players
