Travel destinations: Disney World

by Roddy J Dryer

Created on: June 17, 2008

Truly only a scant few people around the globe have not heard of Walt Disney World. Not only has this unique destination placed itself among the finest traditions of American culture, it has become the goal to visit this magical place, at least once, of so many people of this world. It is as simple as this: There are just some things you need to do in life before you die. So, to visit Walt Disney World is both a dream come true, and a testament to your place in this world. I can claim, proudly, that I have WDW as a major part of my life, in part because I worked there for eleven years and because my wife still does. We visit the place at least once or twice a month, and I've done this regularly since 1992. Walt Disney World is as much a part of our lives as, well, anything or anyone. Therefore, I have learned a thing or two along the way.

It's intriguing to note that WDW is merely just a large span of real estate consumed for the sole purpose of providing simple entertainment for a hefty sum. Yes, you read that right; simple entertainment for a hefty sum, meaning your money. The entertainment, while often high-tech and elaborate, is there to simply amuse and entertain for the short-term. The hope is the sum of all these parts will create astonishing memories. In short, boys and girls of all ages, this is a business, much like any other business.

Now, I will not take away from WDW their purpose or their advertised place in this world. But most people who visit this wondrous place simply do not understand that in order to gain as much value as possible from their visit, they must do it correctly. In other words, people have to approach the magical place with a very real, very practical philosophy in mind.
The one thing you must NOT do when visiting WDW is believe this is a place truly filled with genuine magic, where fantasy and reality share no border. Hey, let your kids think that, but if this is on your bill, then just don't do it. That flawed thinking leads only to disappointment and heartache. However, if you approach this unique destination with a strong sense of educated strategy, along with the knowledge that this isn't a time to relax (you're going to have to work and work hard if you're going to have a good time) then you could enjoy a memorable experience.

I could easily go on and on for hours about many of the best ways to ensure the best time at Disney World, but let me offer some food for thought that may expand your concept of the resort, potentially
