of the media is injected into their profile they react as much as they are able to. Some celebrities with a low media profile who do not pander to the media all the time don't often get labelled with the "staged", tag but those high on the publicity radar do .This is largely unfair given that the majority of media luminaries just want to get on with things without having to account for or explain their behaviour.

Did Mel Gibson stage his drunken anti semetic polemic ? I think not . These were the utterings of a heavily intoxicated middle aged man .The rant was bizarre and unwarranted but clearly not staged.

in a similar vien although with more emotional punch was a tearful outburst from Heather Mills in the throes of her acrimonious divorce from Sir Paul Mcartney . To view this uncomfortable outpouring as staged would be wholly unreasonable.

For every celebrity who has no pretensions of faking it there are just as many I expect who you could argue are hamming it up for the cameras : crocdile tears and angst ridden faces but in truth I think it's pretty hard to keep it going until it defines that individual completly.

How can we write on this topic without mentioning the doyenne of all things celebrity: Ms. Glamourpuss herself and notable queen of the tabloids Ms. Hilton . When she was cruelly incarcerated and offered "special", treatment people laughed and people were secretly gleeful that she was on her way to Jail. I don't think her fragile vulnerabilty in front of the world's media was staged. It was devastatingly genuine and although Paris Hilton often courts the wrong type of media attention for her often bizarre, lewd and decidedly unattractive behaviour she certainly seemed genuine when she was slung into LA county .

So the pendulum swings both ways but more often than not bizarre behaviour is not something that celebrities want to be recognised for . They are after all a brand in an already heavily saturated market place and have to respect their label integrity and profile.
