of leopard seals (the main Antarctic predators), when they don't starve.

These population drops of penguins and other animals have been confirmed in the most recent years and, also for this reason, also these 100,000 tons of krill captured by fishing boats could be locally necessary for the survival of penguins and all the other animals.
For this reason, I agree with the pressure by all the environmental international associations to ban krill fishing, whaling and any form of fishing and hunting from Antarctica and the seas surrounding it.

Also tourism is increasing in the last years, so that up to 20,000 people every year are visiting some points of the Antarctic coast, carried by specialized cruise ships and airplanes and these numbers are quickly increasing.
It's a very expensive trip, surely, the most expensive of the world today, but, if tourism increased too much in the next future, it would create serious problems of pollution and disturb to local fauna, including also very expensive and dangerous aid interventions in case of accidents to tourists.
So, it's better that also a holiday in Antarctica will remain possible only for very few people and that SCIENCE remains the only industry over there, without making damage, of course.
It's a matter of prudence, good sense and responsibility toward our future generations, because we should know, at last, that, everywhere the human beings arrive, they easily destroy and make damage of every kind.

I would recall that, if all the Antarctic ice cap would melt, for whatever human or natural cause, the sea level of all the world would raise of about 65 m, submerging all the coastal planes where most of human populations live today and also a very partial melting of it will be enough to cause a wordly disaster for this reason.
