Movie reviews: Savage Grace

by Kinjal Bali

Created on: June 17, 2008

"savage Grace" in other words is a showcase of Julianne Moore. Written by Howard A. Rodman, its a true, appalling story of Tony and his parents, played by Stephen Dillane and Julliane Moore. Its a true story of the wealthy baekeland family's rise and fall. Brooks Baekeland, heir to the plastic fortune, frustrated by his lack of ambition, thinks that his american wife is impulsive and pretentious sometimes. At first glance, the movie rolls in the couples fighting in beautiful rooms. The story is all about a horrible marriage and a gay son, for whom she tries to smother emotionally that results to other drastic measure. In absence of father, Barbara and his son fill that void in a very disturbing way.

Sexual Content in the movie - The movie is full of nudity. There are rough sex scenes, same sex encounters between consenting males. Two underage boys experimental sexual act, and a three- person sexual encounter is also seen when Moore's character begins a sexual relationship with her own son.

Violence - Guns and suicide attempts are seen. Including bloody wounds and a character is brutally stabbed.

Language - The language of the movie is full of ill words. F*k, s*t, whore used quite often.

Drugs - Use of cigarettes, cigar smoking, marijuana, constant drinking, and discussions of hangovers is common.

Savage Grace is another true story of sexual desire and murderous behaviour. A good, tough to make movie for mature viewers.

The common sense element about the movie is that parents should know that this mature movie, which is based on a true story, is steeped in amoral and sexual behavior among the idle rich - culminating in a sexual relationship between a mother and her son. The movie also depicts raw, and contains nudity (including full-frontal female), same-sex encounters, underage sex, and more. There's also plenty of language, and some violence, as well as drinking, smoking, and drug use. Teens who know star Julianne Moore's terrific acting work from bigger films should understand that it is not meant for kids of any age.

The movie seems to be an exploration of real human behaviour. Moore again comes out as a great actress. Moore presents a series of poses, phrases and disjointed emotions, and looks stunning though with the time length, the actress doesn't turn old. Undoubtedly movie is superior to many of the movies competing now.
