We are always selling.

This is meant as no affront to the average consumer, which is at least 90% of the buying community, but they have zero idea what is going on. A salesperson job is to inform, sell themselves and the product and in that order. There is a reason why people are duped every second of every day; an excellent salesperson is the trickster. Almost 20yrs of sales as shown this current salesman that a potential buyer decides within the first 30 seconds whether to give you the time of day at all. Selling is just that, SELLING!

Any product is still the same; it is the pitch man that makes the difference. Automobiles, security systems, roadside services, insurance, discount books, trust in this, a good salesman can move it all. It doesn't even matter if the buyer needs it or not, that is where the selling comes in. Example, when one can cold- call and convince a otherwise sound business owner to give their credit card information over the phone to purchase cheap rubber wristbands, that is selling my friends!

When the salesperson walks through the door or sits down for a one on one, before the product can be pushed the salesperson is selling themselves. There is a reason why looks help with selling (people are shallow) the consumer migrates to the looks not the product. Once the consumer is captured, then the product is served and the consumer is fed. There are very few consumers who understand insurance products and everyone hates buying insurance. Yet, insurance salesman can make quite the nice living "convincing" the consumer of the need and the solution provided. This is not to say that any person with looks can sell but it certainly does help.

Informing a consumer of what they need is selling, not just placing a brochure on the table. The salesperson truly must believe in the product or at least have themselves convinced of it. Again it does not matter what the product is, the selling is all in the presenter. This is the age of sound bites and short attention spans, consumers are filled with pieces of everything and wholes of nothing. Selling is the art of managing time and sculpting your information meal for the consumer. We see talent and no talent on the magic box everyday; from Tony Robbins to Dr. Phil. All are selling themselves and then whatever is being pushed that week.

The oldest occupation in the world is about selling, no matter how hungry the man, it is still selling. Your spouse sold you on them and continues to sell you everyday, from breakfast to bedtime and beyond, wink, and wink. Your children sell you to take them to the mall or give up the car keys. Every presidential candidate has to sell themselves to the country. College coaches sell their programs to recruits Your buddy sells you on going out and making a fool of yourself for the chick in the corner. You sell yourself on getting off the couch and hitting the gym.

It is all about the sell. No selling and the best, most needed product goes dusty on the shelf. Here is a simple proverb, "every waking moment you are being sold or you are selling something", that simple.
