August Storm
Dancing through imagination,
Taunting me with their illumination.
Flickering silently in the night,
They spark in and out of sight.
Despite the sleepy, creeping yawn,
I padded quickly across the lawn.
Futile efforts to be discrete
Were betrayed by grass beneath my feet.
Like a torch to aid my quest,
Fighting on to giver her best,
The moon shone with all her might,
Even through the dead of night.
Instincts emerged and hatched some plans
To catch the creatures in my hands.
It was so fantastic, I opened my palm
And released it back to the August calm.
Like the softer fireflies
Lights flashed across the skies.
Streaking fury below the stars,
Leaving only phantom scars.
A natural wonder, so profound;
Exiting quickly with no sound.
Lightning rips through the blue,
Only a ghost is left in my view.
As if knowing I sought some proof,
I was driven to the refuge under my roof
When the heavens released a mighty rumble
Reminding me instantly to stay so humble.
Leaves on trees began to sway
And soon it would all be washed away;
All the heat with all its pain
Will be cooled in forgiving summer rain.
To my bed I sluggishly shuffled
As the pelting rain softly muffled
My faithful nighttime prayer
Whispered beneath a linen layer.
Even children's energy fails
And welcomed are dreams of fairytales.
Falling asleep with starry eyes,
I was not wakened by the wind's whistling sighs.
Hoping tomorrow would bring the same,
But since perfect nights so rarely came,
This August storm, like others of its kind,
Would be forever locked in my mind.

Poetry: Summer rain
There is a place I love to sit,
When the summer rain falls gently down;
Its from my porch I like to enjoy it;
Where I can hear
