Fans, rejoice! After three long years of cable and network re-runs the long-awaited movie adaptation of Sex and the City is here. The sublimely funny HBO series featuring best friends Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda became the must-see show for millions of women around the world. After three breathless years of anticipation the movie is finally here to satisfy fans' burning curiosity.

Never watched the show? Need a quick refresher? Carrie the main character is sexy, cute, funny, a witty writer, and totally outgoing. She's the perpetually hopeful single girl in designer labels. Samantha is the vixen, resolutely single and unapologetic, with a voracious sexual appetite. She's a self-made business woman who takes what she wants. Miranda is the down-to-earth lawyer, the ultimate independent working woman who is totally focused on her career. Charlotte is conservative and sweet, like a classic Chanel suit.

Throughout the six-year run of the series, we see their characters pushed to their limits in typical yet witty sitcom situations. Imagine every bad date story you've ever heard, and chances are it happened to one of the characters in Sex and the City. But these stories are set in New York, the American capital of fashion and glamour. Through six years of bad dates and fantastic fashion, we see the characters mature and grow through life-changing events. Charlotte gets married then divorced. Miranda has a baby. Carrie falls in love again and again. Samantha battles breast cancer. Throughout all of the hills and valleys of their lives, the girls remain true to each other, and that is the real story of the series: the power of female friendship.

The series finale left each of the girls in interesting personal situations. It was television's best effort at happily ever after. Big finally realized his feelings for Carrie and they are together again. Miranda and Steve are married and happily raising their son in Brooklyn. Charlotte marries her divorce lawyer and they adopt a baby girl from China. Samantha learns to accept a monogamous relationship with a much younger and extremely sexy man who is totally devoted to her. These situations seem to close the series neatly, with each character finding the perfect situation. But life is not so neat, and the characters are poised for changes in the three years since the series ended.

Long-time fans and their willing or unwilling escorts alike will enjoy Sex and the City: the Movie. There are great new fashions, new shoes,
