The history of the tuxedo

The town kept the name, using phonetics to spell it and came up with tuxedo. The Algonquin meaning of the word ptauk-seet-tough is "home of the bear."

The other possible names are duck sider, duck seeder, and duck cedar, as documented in some old correspondence concerning the area of Tuxedo Park. Duck cedar, tuxedo I suppose it might sound similar if you say the words quickly.

Maybe we won't ever know for certain who created the tuxedo, but it caught on and became the standard in formal wear for men. Today, tuxedos are worn at formal dinner parties, weddings, high school proms, and even in some formal restaurants where the patrons want to look at least as good as their tuxedo attired waiters.

Rich and poor alike wear the tuxedo for formal gatherings and women and children wear modified tuxedos designed for them. The tuxedo is the height of formal wear and it's safe to say, the tuxedo is here to stay.

The history(s) of the tuxedo is fascinating, and in this history, you get to pick your own theory. It would make a good movie if someone could weave the theories together and make them mesh.
