Night Road
Road strapped out
Asphalt in yellow light
All round the country pitch
Bright the white dashed line
Bright the white dashed line
Forever and ever
That line
And the dark.
I am tired.
In the desert,
Places you didn't know
Forgotten when passed in the sun
Now important on the road in the dark
Lights by the road in the black
People are there in the light.
I'm out here in the dark.
There is a sign.
Hope rises with the sign
Knowledge comes with each one
Of what is ahead in the dark,
How far to home, to the end of the road,
The end of the road,
And the dark.
Life a road in the dark:
I follow the lines
I strain for a sign,
I am warmed by a light.
But our journey my friend
Will come to an end
Without lines
Without signs
In the dark

Deep Thoughts
On the edge of thought
In the dark and peace
Of my bed
That which disgusts me
Takes shape
Weaves in and out
As though
The Long Kiss Goodnight
What are these desires you bring
into this frozen night
upon such calm currents?
I can't help imagining
how
