Poetry: Asking why

by C.M Porter

Created on: June 16, 2008

Why are whispers so quiet
and silence so loud?

Why do so few go up
and so many come down?

Why must love die
and cause so much pain?

Why is it so hard to love
and so easy to hate?

Why do we hide
what we most ought to show?

Why is it hard to rise
and so easy to fall?

Why do we destroy
what we don't understand?

Why are the words we need most
the hardest to speak?

Why can't we forgive
and remember to love?

Why are those who take
so unwilling to give?

Why does the loveliest rose
bear the sharpest thorns?

Why do those so talk the most
say the least?
