Assessing the differences between Associated Content and Helium

by Sean Davis

Created on: June 16, 2008

The differences between Helium and Associated Content are very different in the set up for submitting articles, the types of channels used and even they payment structure.

Helium offers more than associated content does in the way of dealing with the submission of articles due relatively few steps in publishing an having more channels offered and a more defined break down of each channel in an attempt to put related articles together rather grouping articles together in a larger category that has a wide range of article. It also does make an outward attempt to help make the people post to the site become better, by allowing others to do more than comment on their articles and offers a wide range of opportunities to have your article published or recognized other than the internet, such as certain newspapers and magazines for which some are local newspapers and magazines while others are specialty papers and magazines.

Associated Content however makes it harder to submit due to a longer process that makes it look more like it is a professional magazine that is looking for content that lives up to their standards due to their payment structure. They do offer different channels but they have fewer channels and only have sub-channels in some of the channels that they provide. They do however allow you to publish right away to their website if you have met certain requirements in their standards which are having a minimum amount of article go through the process of being reviewed by their staff and choose not to have it reviewed for upfront payment. This for some if they are prolific writers may prefer when looking to get their articles out there right away rather than waiting for the review process.

Helium only gives an upfront payment for certain things such as going through the contest area and the market place. Associated Content offers upfront payments if you give them exclusive rights for the publication and they feel that it would do well when distributed to their partners. They also give performance based partly on actual page views and partly on the ads placed on the webpage with the article and paid quarterly regardless of amount through PayPal.

With regards to the publishing rights Helium is geared to having the exclusive publishing rights to the content submitted, while Associated Content has options first of which is exclusive rights with regards to publishing which allows for upfront payments and to be distributed to their partners, non-exclusive publishing which allows you to re-publish it elsewhere which allows for distribution but you only get the performance based payments, and finally view only which permits them to publish it to their site which doesn't let them distribute it but still allows for performance based payments.
