Tips for packing light

Travel Right. Travel Light.

Save your back, save money, and avoid the nightmare of lost luggage and the hassle of long check-in lines by becoming a packing minimalist.' With many airlines now charging you for every bag you check, it's worth a little time and planning to pack light.

By packing the right combination of essentials, you may find that everything you need for your trip fits neatly in a carry-on bag that never leaves your side! No surcharges, no lost luggage, no long lines at check-in. And packing light is good for the environment too. The less weight any vehicle is carrying, whether your own car, a train, bus or airplane, the less fuel it will require to reach its destination. So you'll not only be saving your back, you'll be doing your part to save the planet.

Mix and Match.
Color-coordinate you entire travel wardrobe, neutral colors work best. By sticking with two or three main colors, you'll be able to pull together several outfits from just a few coordinating pieces.

Layer.
Add a sweater, long-sleeve shirt, or jacket and you can completely change your look and ensure your comfort in changing temperatures. Plus, the more you wear, the less you pack!

Accessorize.
Little things really DO mean a lot. Not only do accessories put the finishing touches on an outfit, they can change the whole tone. Jewelry, belts, and scarves can turn your daytime sundress into an elegant dinner ensemble. And for gentlemen, just button-up that shirt and add a tie and you're ready for a night on the town too!

Downsize.
TSA regulations require all carry-on liquids and gels to be less than 3 ounces and fit into one, quart-size bag. So take a cue from them and only pack what you need. Just be sure to have that quart-size bag in an easy to reach part of your bag so you don't need to dig around when you reach security. And don't forget to take advantage of the amenities offered by your hotel. Chances are there's no need to pack your bulky hairdryer or beach towel, nor your shampoo or soap since most rooms are equipped with these, and many other, essentials.

Nesting.
There's an amazing amount of space to be had in your carry-on luggage if you use it wisely. Tuck small items like socks and accessories into your shoes.

Laundry Services.
Almost all full-service hotels offer dry cleaning and laundry, some even offer same day service. Those that don't, often offer onsite laundry facilities, so don't despair if you drop a little ketchup on your shirt or some marinara on your pants, bag it up, and send it out it'll be good as new and ready to wear within hours.
