W.O.W. Widow is defined for the purpose of this article as a spouse who suffers the loss of a loved one who has chosen to renounce this world, and all its pleasures for the imaginary online world of W.O.W.
When you've dressed in your sexiest lingerie or even pranced out the Princess Leia outfit and told him you have better uses for his sword and more enticing quests with greater reward with no response then you're a World of Warcraft widow. When you've begged, pleaded and bribed to no avail, you've entered the exclusive club for the spouses of W.O.W addicts.
Welcome. Donations will be used to for a future singles cruise.
Here are some suggestions for survival:
*Give up your housework, lose custody of your children, neglect work, family and friends and become a co-addict by signing up for your own account and spending all of your time when not sleeping or eating or using the washroom, online playing W.O.W.
*Not ready yet to hit bottom? Consider an affair. Anyone who will look you in the eyes rather then keep them glued to a screen will do. You may want to do some dusting first, depending on how long its been since your husband... er... started his World of Warcraft journey.
*Cut off the Internet and make him go cold turkey for a week before they turn it on again. Be warned, make sure you know your husband's mental health, he may go psycho and kill his wife and kids thinking he will level up and that he'll get extra points for doing the same to his monster - in - laws.
*Start a World of Warcraft Widows Support Group. A safe place where you can mourn, kvetch, and commiserate the loss of your husband. Lose all the weight you've gained to replace the s*^ you no longer have by dancing with the male strippers you hire to serve...refreshments. You can tell your husband you've taken up pottery classes, although its likely he won't notice you're gone. Unless you make dinner for him on a regular basis, in which case, order him up a pizza.
*Get a life. Go back to school. Reinvent yourself. Either he'll stand up - from the computer - and er elsewhere - and take notice - or not notice when you're finally gone. If the latter is the case, the added bonus is you've lost weight, that albatross around your neck.
Marriage is a sacred covenant entered into by two people. I make light of this in my writing and of the breaking of vows. However, it is your right to be respected, loved and responded to. To connect on physical, emotional and spiritual levels. To continue deepening your relationship by shared activities, by physical contact and by basic conversation as a means of reconnecting after being apart during the day.
Do you find your tired, depressed, sick? Irritable?
Lack of this basic human connection we need from our loved one, can cause a little death inside for all of us, making our spouses widowers as well. It can affect our health and our quality of life.
Life is for living, for loving and connecting. You have a right to ask for this, this connection, and if its not heard, and changes aren't made, if you aren't happy in the relationship, I think if we respect ourselves we will take steps to mutually dissolve (not just one person breaking the covenant for an affair) our vows so that we can find someone who understands the meaning of, "...Do you take this woman - or man - to love, honour and respect?"
Before our little inner death affects our outside health.
I respect marriage, I respect the union of two souls entered into by this act. However, to me, it becomes hypocrisy when there is no real connection. When there is in fact, a disconnect between two people. Honour the bond made before god, but honour yourself as well.
Good luck and be good to yourself. You matter.
