Home improvement: Landscaping your property

Landscaping shares commonalities with other home improvements: Rain and wind were blowing everywhere. "Why?" My friend, let's call her Julie, didn't hire a professional when she had her roof done. Oh, she paid for it. Enough work got done that the old roof was gone. But, unfortunately, so were the, "unprofessional" roofers. So, she paid a professional to get the rain out of her bedroom. Lock into your mind the importance of using professional contractors for any home improvement project, including landscaping.

What is landscaping? Very likely you already have a suitable idea: Shaping the exterior space of a home or other building, to bring the benefits of relaxation, safety, energy and water-use efficiency, greenery and pure enjoyment to the property owners/users. Consideration of native plants, is essential to an easily sustainable landscape.
So, consider when deciding to improve your home with landscaping, how manageable, sustainable and affordable the design will be. A professional can aid in selection and affordable plants which grow well locally. These save water and suit the climate and are most likely to look, "green." Before landscaping your property,...

Ask yourself- Need landscaping?

Spell time and expenses out in writing with an experienced contractor- Be clear. For example, "Cleaning up," means different things to different people. Leave twigs in a pile, or, tie them up and leave them curbside, or, take them away, and or, both take them away and plant other items in their place, or, install a lawn. Any of those are good, depending on desire and budget.

Temporary problems- Mud, puddles, lack of green, paying workers, buying supplies, lack of yard use while plants, such as turf, get established.

Value- Your own enjoyment, then, resale value.

Benefits- Raspberries, strawberries, shade... Home value increases.

For popular styles, design options, check out current ideas. Also, ask the contractor for ideas.

Remember: Licensed contractors avoid catastrophes, and give great advice. Have the landscape of your dreams.
