How to get a boyfriend

by Amanda Cupido

Created on: June 16, 2008

It sounds so simple... this idea of having a boyfriend. Two people, some similarities, some differences and an interest in one another. How hard can it be?

But then why is the whole process so difficult? The exchanging of contact information, the first call, the first date. There are so many steps and processes that some people are well aware of, yet others seem to be oblivious to.

How do you get a boyfriend? Does anyone really know?

It is clear that sometimes the "bold" tactic works. Working up the courage to ask for a guy's number - or even to go out - can be tough. Certain guys like it when the girl is able to have enough confidence to make a move. Since it is a common belief within society that the man should be the one to be bold, it is noted when a girl is able to put herself out there. On the other hand, this game plan can back fire at any moment. There are the men who are easily intimidated when they are not the ones calling the shots. These are usually the ones you have to play games with.

When referring games, it implies the flirtatious banter, the perfectly timed phone calls and the planned responses. It can be a bit much, but it is easy to pick up on and even easier to become accustomed to. Once someone plays with a rule, it is quickly noted and then passed on. Some of the common ones include:
-After getting a number, don't call until two full days have passed
-If a message is left, do not return the call until approximately 24 hours later
-If a text message is sent with no response, do not send another right away

The games can be fun but at some point, they become tiring. That's when girls usually find it in themselves to be the bold one. If it backfires, they are back to games convinced that they are necessary when finding a boyfriend.

Then there are the coasters. The girls who do absolutely nothing and let the guys come to them. No games, no bold moves. Nothing. It is amazing how this method even works, but it does. Maybe it's the carefree vibes that they give off? Or possibly their confidence in knowing that they can get a boyfriend using zero effort. As long as they answer the call, they are set.

Once the beginning stages pass, and it is evident that both parties are interested, how does the dating process evolve into an official relationship status? From seeing each other, to being exclusive, to becoming an item. The steps are different for everyone. Some couples find themselves in a relationship naturally, without ever officially being asked. Others discuss each step in depth and a slow progression is clearly made.

There is no set way of finding a boyfriend. Timing, in conjunction with being in the right place with the right guy, will lead to success. There is no specific tactic that can lure any guy. Whoever said it was easy, is crazy.
