Celebrities have a noticeable negative impact on society. I'll tell you why; because society not only allows it, but encourages it. I'll get this out of the way first. I am pretty much an "Anti-Celebrity." That does not mean I don't think there may be some celebrities who are overall good people.
Society idolizes entertainment and Celebrities. This includes Football players, Baseball players, and the entire lot. We allow them to be paid a ridiculous amount of money, in some cases for doing nothing (someone PLEASE tell me what talent Paris Hilton has.) We pay, on average $30-$50 for a pro football game. Players are paid MULTI millions of dollars a year. The average movie ticket is $10 each. Again, the celebrities earn' millions of dollars a year.
Average citizens rush to their television to see the latest "Let's check in on Brittany" segment... Why is it not realized that the celebrities are in essence NO different than any other person doing a job? Why the God-like status? I sure don't want my Kids and Grandkids to end up like them.
The result of overpaying and worshipping celebrities is we end up with young actors, singers, basketball players, who have too much money and not enough social responsibility. We have Paris Hiltons who, under pressure and PR advice humbly admit they want to help people in the "country" of Africa. (Oh, my good lord!) We then have children and grand children who learn that to make millions of dollars, and be cool, you just have to be beautiful, and act stupidly!
Because of Celebrities, and our allowance of their behavior, we have youth who believe only redeeming quality a person can possess is beauty, or the ability to play sports. People who enjoy watching Tom Cruise movies (don't even get me started on him!) will suddenly think that because he can act, it must mean he is intelligent and level headed. Someone whose words we should take under advisement. We have even older people who go berserk when they see a celebrity. Suddenly they are acting like they are 15 years old again. I was once in an area where a celebrity happened to be. The woman next to me, who was about my age 40-50 went absolutely nuts! She was yelling and waving. The woman was swooning! I smiled, leaned into her and said, "Calm down baby, he is NOT going to go out with you."
Yes, Celebrities negatively impact society. Probably the only good thing to come out of it would be we finally see that even the "upper crust" can be white trash, and the poor folks can make it big! If only they could make it big without becoming more idiotic!
