THE NEW MUSEUM OF ART
It started as a small collection of my favorite paintings about 8 years ago and it has grown to a well-visited site containing over 500 paintings by some 150 painters. The New Museum is far larger than a national art gallery. Its location is at .
Moreover, the New Museum has stayed non-commercial. There is no intent to make any money from visitors.
However, that's not all there is to this Museum.
The museum also contains a large number of innovative ideas that are simply not possible in physical art museums.
One is a comparison of how great painters represented the same things. How did Vermeer and Rubens paint glass? How did other artists paint flowers, jewelry, men's faces, women's faces, reclining nudes, fauna, ships and boats, sunflowers and classical themes such as Judith and Holofernes?
In the latter case, 21 classical painters met the challenge of showing how Judith cut off the head of Holofernes to save her city. The variety of representations is almost a history of painting styles.
Another section of the museum provides a number of illustrated articles describing the history of art styles, pigments, and painters, as well as treating the major influences through history that have changed painting. Markets, morality, social mores and landmark painters all had great influences.
The Main Galleries of the Museum deal with individual painters over a hundred of them, while still others are represented by large collections of their paintings. For example, all of Jan Vermeer's paintings are in the Museum first as thumbnails and then with paintings as large as your monitor will allow. Similarly Egon Schiele's work is represented by a large number of his paintings of people alleviated by his paintings of landscapes and trees.
Furthermore, the Museum is not limited to showing only Western art. Japanese and Chinese art is included and there is a very large collection of Russian Art, The latter is something which is almost entirely missing in the Art Museums of Washington, Paris, Berlin, London and Rome and yet Russian impressionism far exceeds Western European painting in quality and vision. Levitan is something now art aficionado should miss.
Black art also has its place. It is perhaps the major movement of the 20th Century and yet is sadly missed in major art galleries. Come to the New Museum of Art to see it.
Finally, the Museum is interactive. Choose your own new theme that you would like to see portrayed and it will be shown.
You have never seen an Art Museum such as the New Museum. Come, admire great paintings and have a say in how the New Museum expands. Go to .
