Revelation

The drug of euphoria
holding her aloft
abandons her.
She thuds back to reality
battered bruised bent
and sees with horror
the mirror of her soul
reflecting a tiny her
sitting cross-legged
in the quicksand
of her self-centeredness

Nothing is the same that was
no veil left to hide
the truth from her;
the lie her life was resting on
shattered smashed spent
left with nothingness
no more signposts marking
where her fantasies had been
and where her hopes had
lain forgotten and
withering in darkness

Such sight offends her senses
and she turns away
red-faced guilty.
penitent tears begin to flow
salty sad sweet
squaring her shoulders
she wipes her face dry with
the back of a trembling hand
knowing that such a
revelation
is God's gift of newness

With determination born
out of deep regret
she vows to touch
others and be touched in return
gladly giving
having the courage
to be always honest
see herself in truthful light
to hold nothing back
to share with all
God's gift of forgiveness
