"Burp," darn, there it is again. The familiar painful pressure is also building up in your chest. You shake your head knowing that these symptoms are the payback for eating that double cheeseburger and fries for dinner.
Indigestion has become one of the most common ailments in America. It has become so prevalent that many people quickly grab an antacid tablet several times each day. What most people do not consider is that the pill being digested is not a natural substance. With extended use over time, that quick cure could possibly cause liver damage.
We all know what indigestion feels like, but most people do not know exactly what causes their discomfort. Indigestion occurs when the stomach and the intestines are not able to convert the foods we eat into a simple, soluble substance that can be absorbed into our body. When the food remains "undigested", complications arise in the form of indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, dysentery, or stomach cramps.
Natural home remedies for indigestion may not be as quick as reaching for a pill; but, they can be just as effective. Some of the easiest home remedies for indigestion include:
Drink two glasses of warm water still giving out some fumes. This works especially well for indigestion caused by flour products.
Almost as easy is to add a tablespoon of unfiltered apple cider vinegar, (regular will work, but unfiltered is better), to a small amount of water. Wait about 20 minutes. If you do not feel any improvement, take the same amount again. (Remember, apple cider vinegar is a natural substance and cannot hurt you.)
Water is helpful and necessary for good health in many ways. Another quick solution for indigestion is to add a spoonful of fresh lemon juice, a spoonful of fresh, minced ginger, and two spoons of honey to lukewarm water.
A tablespoon of cinnamon in water after a large meal has been proven to help digest food faster. This valuable spice has been used for centuries in Indian and Arabian cuisine to facilitate digestion.
If diarrhea is caused by indigestion, here is an effective home remedy: Take about 5-15 grams of nutmeg powder and mix it with fresh apple juice or the pulp of a banana. Eating this will stop diarrhea and will balance the digestive system.
Parsley is another indigestion fighter. Eat a couple of sprigs of fresh parsley or a quarter teaspoonful of the dried parsley herb taken with water. Caution: If using fresh leaves, chew them well or the parsley itself, if swallowed in a lump, may exacerbate your indigestion.
For mild attacks of indigestion, try chamomile tea.
Many foods, eaten to excess, can cause indigestion in the human body. Luckily, there are home remedies for most problems. However, the best remedy is to avoid the foods that trigger your digestion problems in the first place. Some simple measures include:
* Pay attention to the foods that cause you the most discomfort and avoid them.
* Eat at fixed times every day.
* When eating a rich meat product, include a green salad with the meal.
* Avoid eating hot and cold foods at the same time.
* Allow four hours between meals.
* Chew your food well.
* Do not overeat.
* Avoid eating undercooked or overcooked food.
If you follow these suggestions, the intensity of your indigestion should be reduced. Then, by adding the simple home remedy products listed here to your shopping list, you will be prepared the next time you feel any discomfort. Just as important, you will have an effective solution that does not include taking an unnatural drug.
