I think a Mom who has no degree should be able to homeschool. I have two kids that make a great example of what the public school system has to offer. I had to stop what I was doing one day to carry a book to the school to show her teacher that she could read. When I left that day her reading level went up by 10. The teacher didn't know she could read and this was mid school year. One day my daughter, who is very shy and doesn't speak up for herself, was left in the class by herself while the rest of the kids were on the playground. You want to know why? The teacher didn't realize she left her and my daughter stayed because she thought she was in trouble. She was scared to go any where for fear of being in worse trouble. Then when she started 3rd grade they told me again that she couldn't read so I asked if they could help her and I was told no because she doesn't have a disability. Even with no degree I have enough common sense to not leave a child in class and that if a child is in 3rd grade and can't read there is something wrong. It's not rocket science.I also have a son who is in the 5th grade and smart as can be. He reads books with over 400 pages for the book club every six weeks and he even made a 100 on the TAKS test. The school makes him feel like he is wrong for being smart. He is made fun of and picked on while the teachers look on. How do these things help my kids?
When I homeschool I know that my kids will get a better education. I can show you that with my youngest who will be three in August. She can speak Spanish, count to 10 in english and spanish, she can tell you her abc's, she can identify part of her abc's, she can tell you the sounds and words that go with each letter, she can tell you her shapes, and more. All of my kids were easy learners when they were that small. I will start by pointing out some of the things I like about homeschooling:
1. I can teach my kids a larger variety of things.
2. My kids will have a chance to learn things public taught kids will not learn.
3. I can help my kids excel in what they do best in.
4. I can focus on my kids more than a teacher can, I only have two kids to teach not 25.
5. I can teach my kids how to take care of a household as well as their classes.
6. I can teach my kids how to budget(a skill they will need but aren't taught).
7. My kids learn how to cook.(another skill they need but aren't taught)
8. If my kids have trouble in a subject I can find a tutor that I know will focus on
