As many of you may have heard, Lebron James isn't Michael Jordan. He hasn't become "Air Jordan" yet, nor will he ever. Moreover, I would put money on the idea that his lifetime points per game (PPG) will never reach 30 as "His Airness" has done. I bet by now a lot of you are taking a second look at the title of the article and thinking, "Didn't this guy say Lebron was going to be better?" Well, I will get to that now.
It may be news to many single minded people that PPG is not the sole barometer of ranking NBA players. If that was the case then why did Philly go through so much trouble to get rid of Allen Iverson? Or better yet, why hasn't Kobe got an early nod to the Hall of Fame? It's because a lot people are starting to open their eyes to the fact that PPG doesn't win your team the prize. Kevin Nash won two straight MVP awards and his stats were not exactly the greatest in the league. Ben Gordon and Luol Deng of the Chicago Bulls are considered indispensable to the team but not from an individual standpoint.
The point I'm trying to make is that aside from "King James" averaging close to 27 PPG, 7 Reb, and 7 Ast a game and lifetime, which is an astounding individual achievement, he excels his team on his good days and bad days alike. I remember a game last year on Dec 23rd when he shot 25%, but still scored 14 pts, 9 asst, and pulled down 8 boards in a 94-89 win against the Pacers. He knew he wasn't helping them in the points department so he concentrated a bit more on hitting the boards and doint the dishes.
That's something that you rarely saw the air do. While he was a contributor defensively, he didn't have as much ability as Lebron does being both a floor captain and role player alike. All he needs now is to be a bit more agressive in the paint and he will be unstoppable. Once the Cavs stay healthy all year and show a little more consistancy down the road in the playoffs, then "King James" will have all the rings that his fingers can hold.
In conclusion, while nobody can take away the achievements of "His Airness", "King James" will have the throne when all is said and done with his career. He will also be remember as the one who saved the NBA from all the arrogance that enthralled it before his arrival.
