Presidential Elections 2008

Choosing the 2008 Presidential candidate

The 2008 United States Presidential race is, without a doubt, one of the most important elections in the country's history. There is just too much riding on every single vote. As the 2000 election proved, every citizen's vote matters because as few as 5 electoral votes and two hundred thousand populous votes could make the difference. And that difference, in this case, is as antipodal as night and day. In terms of presidential policy, we're talking about two men whose philosophies on every subject matter could not be any more converse or contrary. They are on opposite ends of the political spectrum, and with so many pressing needs and high tension decisions being contingent on who takes office you can understand why this particular election could be the most historical and most vital decision ever presented to the American public.

With that said, the decision must be made and obviously more responsibility rests on the shoulders of Americans than ever before. So the question arises, "Who should I vote for?" Well if you honestly have no idea most people would think that you have been absent from this galaxy for almost a year and a half now, but I believe that, regardless of the constant coverage of this seemingly never-ending campaign, a large majority of the American people still have serious thought to put into it before they will be able to confidently fill out their ballot. The years of vividly distinct lines between political parties' constituents is long gone. Sure the south was predominately red in the last election and the north-east was mostly blue, but that is a very shallow glance at what was really going on. A larger percentage of the voting population than ever before will be made up of college age students and young adults. The words Democrat and Republican might as well be Latin, because this partisan nomenclature is meaningless to them, and now that I think about it, I've never seen any proof that these words should mean anything to any voter. I understand the importance of a two party system of government, but why should party affiliation mean anything to the voter? Would it not be more effective if every single politician was his own individual party, that had to develop his own platform and his own personal value system? And if it's dictatorship you fear, then I would have to point out that in all government bodies that are characterized by authoritarianism, such as a dictatorship, the individual's rights and goals are subjugated to
