In observing both religions and spiritual paths, it becomes apparent that the element of Balance is left out. Within each structure, the followers are encouraged to follow a specific path and set of beliefs, and all others are excluded.
For example, how many religions extoll free will, yet tell a person they must only follow the right and goodly path? Those who would choose their own path are damned as sinners, and used as examples of what not to be.
How many faiths seek peace for the entire world? How many of those same faiths embrace nature and the earth goddess, yet overlook the fact that murder and death are also parts of nature? The natural state of the world is not peaceful, but balanced.
Even those religions and faiths that supposedly follow the path of Balance seem to fall short of truly following Balance. Balance is more than just what a single person needs to keep in their life, it is a state that embraces the entire planet, and the universe beyond that. Balance is all around us, if we care to look.
No single person can be perfectly in a neutral state. Each individual person will have a smattering of Chaos and Law, or Good and Evil, within them. Those are elements that a person must keep in check, keep them in harmony, to prevent themselves from falling to one extreme or the other.
Because each person will have more of one element or the other, it is the whole mass that will bring Balance into being. One person slightly more Chaotic will be the opposite of someone slightly more Lawful. And even in extremes, there will be Balance. A murder stands in check of the pacifist, while the strait-laced businessman is the opposite of the wild flowerchild.
Across the entire planet, Balance will make itself known as well. One country falls so another may thrive. One country will provide industry while another remains lush wilds. It is the natural state of the universe, and it will always bring itself out.
So remember, the next time you see something that seems wrong or evil or goody-goody, that there can be no light without dark, no life without death, no love without hate. For everything, there must be Balance.
