I adore lingerie. Whether it be in pretty pastel shades of pink covered in lace or racy black and red with diamante detail. But it doesn't take long for the aforementioned garments to go from looking glamorous and sexy to drab and dull, lace hanging off and missing diamantes. The bottom line is that lingerie has a short life span, especially if you wear it and wash it regularly, so what can you do to not only save yourself money (because lets me honest the lingerie in leading stores is not cheap) and if you get a piece that you really love and it fits well you don't want to have to throw it away a year down the line.

The simplest way to extend the life of your lingerie is to think about what exactly you are buying. For example, if you buy a garment from a cheaper outlet then do not expect the item to last you long. Lingerie is like anything else you get what you pay for and if you pay peanuts you quite frankly get monkeys. Lingerie should be purchased as an investment, if you pay that bit more you will get a good quality and hardwearing garment. Although, this is obviously not always the case. Make sure that you purchase underwear in practical colours for everyday use, a simple white or cream and black are absolutely essential to any wardrobe collection. The white and black will go under almost anything and are the easiest to stick in the washer and not panic about colour running (I will discuss washing at length later in the article). Try to avoid going for bras that are made entirely from cotton because these will soon go out of shape and will not sit on the body correctly, for a snug fit try something that contains a small amount of lycra (not too much or you will be wearing a swimming costume) but just enough to ensure that the garment will stay in shape. To ensure that your garments last, make sure that you get the correct size bra, it is a common fact the majority of women wear the wrong bra size and this can reduce the life of your bra and also make it uncomfortable. It is recommended that every woman should get measured (most major lingerie stores offer this service free of charge) this will not only improve your posture but also make you look slimmer. What is perhaps the most important element when purchasing lingerie is to know what purpose they will serve, if you are going to wear it everyday go for something simple and easy to wear but if you are looking for something for an evening with a plunging neckline try a multi-way bra.
