Poetry: Romantic pain

Haunting from Afar

Hiding in the shadows
Haunting from afar
You'll never know I'm watching
That I'm wishing on a star

That somehow I could change for you
Be the way you want me to
Join you in your life of light
When all I know to do is fight

Gave up on this world long ago
I thought it had forsaken me
But you gave me a bright new hope
Of how things are supposed to be

You gave me hope
You gave me light
But it was blinding
Far too bright

And scared of things I'd never known
I slunk back to my hole to hide
To watch my light from far away
Where the brightness would not blind

You gave me hope for a new day
But I could not adapt to it
The love that I had never known...
That life and I just wouldn't fit

So all that I can do is watch
In sorrows sad and strange
And wish that I could be with you
But I can never change
