More often than not, the dreams that we once had when we were little children is so much different from the paths that we eventually take. However, some people manage to keep their childhood dreams and fulfill it. Some parents influence their child's dreams. They choose the path that their children should take whether the children likes it or not.
I had different dreams as I was growing up. I remember seeing my picture in my kindergarten yearbook and under the picture it says "When I grow up I want to be a stewardess!" I always wanted to travel the world. My dream was to be able to speak many foreign languages. However as I grow older my dreams start to change. I then wanted to be a Doctor, particularly a paediatrician until I learned about love and wanted to be a Cardiologist in order to fix broken hearts. I always liked the idea of being able to help people. Aside from that, being a Doctor is my mom's frustration so I also feel like I want to do it for her too. If I would be a doctor I would like to do some charity work and cure the needy people for free. I would like to be part of new discoveries in health care.
The question now, so what did I become? Well, I am no one yet as of this moment. I ended up taking Materials Engineering following my dad's footsteps. My dad is a Mechanical Engineer. He travels a lot so I was convinced that even with being an engineer I can fulfill my travel dreams. Being an engineer fits me somehow because I am a very technological person. I like making and fixing things. I figured that even as an Engineer I can work in the biomedical field and help in innovating the technology in health care. Although just as I was when I was younger, I am still as confused as to what I really want to be. I still plan on taking Medicine School after my Engineering degree and fulfill my other dream.
Another dream that I have always had is to own a restaurant. I had this dream of being a chef and entrepreneur at the same time. I enjoy cooking and being in the kitchen. I also enjoy eating.
Whether the path you are taking is something that you have always wanted or something that just recently came up, we should always believe in our dreams. Some parents influence what their children wants to be in the future but I believe that in order to be truly successful in our career we should love and enjoy what we choose to do. We should dream big because it determines our future. We should never stop to dream and not let anything hinder this.
