Our friends have often referred to our house, as the Chinese laundry for computer repair, as not only do we have 4 very actively used computers in service in our tiny little abode, that number can swell quiet significantly, when family and friends, have issues, that requires a little technical expertise, to get them up and running again.
But I think the moment that stuck out in my mind the most, was the time my daughter, needed to do some research for an assignment, at that time she hadn't been allowed to have internet access on the computer in her room, (She has now since got that plus MSN, plus Myspace, plus plus plus, I must be either slipping in my old age, or else she's just growing up and becoming more trustworthy.) but at that time she was beholding to me and the main computer that was situated in my sons bedroom, (I told you it was a small house.)
I had only just finished using my pride and joy, and I knew it was running fine, as I had just spent the better part of the afternoon checking my e-mails, doing some real work, and generally wasting more time online than I should have been. Yet I had time to switch it off before the squeal of desperation in my daughters voice made it apparent even to the neighbors, that I should have known that she wanted to do her research now, and I should have left it on for her, to complete her assignment (must include mind reading in my resume.)
I made way for her to sit in the CHAIR, and we had a light hearted banter about her day at school as she went for the power switch, and that's when it happened nothing no power, no nothing, it was the curse of our daughter.
It was a long standing technical joke in our house, that computers and my daughter, just don't mix, weather that be through a lack of patience on her part, or some other seemly random universal event that where not aware of they just don't get on, it is also a great source of frustration for her, that they just seem to work for me when I'm in the drivers seat (mostly), but this time,my computer was making my attempts to fix it the exception to my normally good record rather than the rule.
It was interesting to say the least, and a great source of frustration, as the normal attempts to restart the computer failed most miserably, we have had issues with loose connectors, and power cords, and the usual run of the mill stuff that seem to plague just about every computer user, but in no short amount of time, it became apparent that this was a rather more serious problem
