Poetry: Man of my dreams

You Danced With Me

The night wasn't special
The floors weren't even clean
And the babies had been crying.

My hair fell loosely across my shoulders
And I wiped my brow with the kitchen towel
My mascara was smeared and my lips were dry

The flour exploded when I opened it
And grease was flying out of the pan
Onto the cabinets and behind the toaster

I peeled the potatoes over the sink
Then I tripped over the dog
And stubbed my toe on the corner of the bottom cabinet
Letting loose words I was normally ashamed to say

While standing over the stove
I quietly began to cry
Wondering why I even tried

But then suddenly, I felt your arms encircle me
Pulling me into you
And away from my task

I started to protest
You wouldn't listen
Instead you turned on the radio
And turned me around to face you

We danced quietly as the music softly played
Round and round the kitchen we twirled
And the world melted away

As I rested my head on your shoulder
You danced with me
And I knew
You were the perfect man

You are the perfect man.
