A Father's Lesson about God

His voice did not frighten us,
An angry hand he did not raise,
We might glimpse a flare of temper,
But were smothered in his praise.

An open book, I knew him well,
As a child and still today,
His patient and empathic heart
His kind and loving way.

He reveled in our joys,
With burdened heart he shared each sorrow,
His strength and love endure today,
As they did then and will tomorrow.

A wise and trusting teacher,
With courageous heart and gentle touch,
Through words and by example
His life has taught me much.

He is a loving father.
An image clear to me,
When I think of God,
This is who I see.

My father's powerful lesson,
A gift from heaven above,
A model of compassion and strength,
And the God I learned to love.

An open book, I knew him well,
As a child and still today,
His patient and merciful heart,
His kind and loving way.
