I want, I need, I long for
a deeper life.
A life of mediocrity, or avoidance, or ignorance
is no life at all.
I am a desert, lying parched and barren under the burning sun
I long for moisture and rain
I long for deep waters to run through my heart once more
I can only find what I am seeking
in a deeper life.
I want a life of joy and service, and yes, sometimes sadness
I want to know pain
so that I can reach out to others in empathy and love
I want to know loss
so that I can help restore what others have lost
I want to touch people's lives
as they have touched mine
I want to shout praises and sing with all my heart
in gratitude
to my Maker
the only One who can give me
what I so desperately want:
a deeper life.
