Why some home businesses fail

There are many opportunities for a person to start a small home business. Many require sales of a product and others require the individual to perform some sort of service. Whatever the type of home business, many people find out that it is not what they expected. As a result, the majority of home businesses fail. There are 3 main reasons why many home businesses fail. By analyzing these 3 factors, it will help a person looking to start a home business achieve success.

The first reason is that people are not patient. They think it will be a get rich quick home based business. Many times people get into a home based business based on what they heard in the sales pitch. Every thing sounded so good. The people who talked to them mentioned all these success stories of people who were without jobs and are now making 6 figures or are multimillionaires. So when they sign up, there are very high expectations. They think that with minimal investment of time and money, it will not be long are making $8,000 -$10,000 a month. They did not ask about the time line of the people that are the success stories. They did not ask what all needed to be done for them to make so much money. They did not know that it took 10-15 years for the "success story" to accumulate that income. They did not know how much work that the "success story" invested in the business to become a success. All they heard was that the selling and marketing part was so simple. So in their minds they have this long list of people that they are going to recruit or sell to and they will be on easy street. Things start going, but not according to plan. All the recruits they thought they would have, they do not. All the products they thought would sell, are not selling. At this point, it would be easy for a person to give up and call their home business a failure.

Secondly, there is no structure to the home business. One of the main reasons that people start home businesses is because they want to be their own boss. They do not want someone telling them what to do and when to do it. They want to make their own hours and work for as long as they want. That is all well and good if the person has self-control. They think that they will be motivated to do what needs to be done strictly because it needs to be done. But without self-discipline, a person might procrastinate when they really need to be working. Once they fall behind on tasks that they need to accomplish, it will be harder and harder for them catch up.
