The best gift a mother or father can receive is one handmade by their child. With Father's Day around the corner there's still time to get the kids together to make Dad something special. Your cost will be minimal, time invested will never be forgotten and Dad will love the gifts.
Here are a few ideas:
Car nut frame
Supplies:
*Small wooden frame
*Black acrylic paint
*Washers and bolts
*Permanent adhesive glue
*Photograph of the child
To make it:
*Remove glass from frame.
*Paint frame black and let dry.
*Use permanent adhesive glue to decorate outside of frame with nuts and washers. Let dry completely.
*Insert a family photo and the glass into the frame.
Dad and me coffee mug
Supplies:
*White coffee mug
*Enamel paints: black, red, blue or pink (acrylic paints will wash off)
*Thin pointed paint brush
To make it:
*Be sure that coffee mug is clean and dry.
*Use child's thumb and red enamel paint to add the daddy figure on the cup. You can make the figure larger if it looks too small.
*Use blue paint (or pink for a girl) and pointing finger to add the child on the cup.
*Use a thin paint brush to draw on legs and arms, connect arms between characters so that they are holding hands.
*Use thin paintbrush to add hair.
*Use thin paintbrush to write "Daddy" above the characters and "& me" below the characters.
*Bake mug in the oven as directed on the back of the enamel paint bottle. You can also air dry, however air drying requires many days as opposed to a few hours in a low temp oven.
Special Key Chain - This is a great gift idea that is both fun and easy!
Supplies:
*clean meat tray
*permanent markers (Sharpies work great!)
*a key ring
To make:
*Cut the curved sides off the tray
*Use the markers to make a special design, or message for Dad. Make a hole in the tray close to the edge.
*Place the tray on a cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil and place in oven at low temperature for 2- 5 minutes. Keep an eye on it! As the meat tray heats up, it will shrink and get hard.
*Allow to cool and add your key ring! A perfect gift for Dad!
Dad's Cookie Jar or it could be a muffin or candy jar! Wrap an empty jar or coffee can with construction paper. Decorate using markers, fabric, paper cutouts, and sequins, whatever you'd like. You can make a batch of Dad's favorite cookies or other goodies. Line your container with colored tissue paper and fill.
