How to keep your New Year's resolutions

It is almost New Year and time to think about making New Year's resolutions. Most everyone keep this tradition alive with a resolution to get rid of some habits or life changes to improve our health. It is a habit to say the old year "Goodbye" and make a resolution that the next year will be more successful. We have all made such resolutions and however we sometimes meet our goals; many of our promises were broken within a short time.

Here are some guidelines which may help you to keep your New Year's resolutions:

1. Focus a realistic goal

It is preferable you focus one main goal where you want to put some energy during the next year. Many people failed because they made a large list of resolutions and it is almost impossible to put your energy in all these resolutions. Your goals need to be attainable; it has no sense to plan running a marathon within six months if you didn't run before. It is better to plan a more realistic goal, for example 5 km. This will give you the chance to plan carefully and prevent injuries.

2. A goal which is important for you

You can only succeed in your New Year's resolutions if your resolution is important for you. If someone pushed you or someone is nagging you to make certain resolutions, for example swimming a certain distance within a certain time, you will have no enjoyment in fulfilling your resolution and the chance is high you don't have the courage to put the necessary energy in this exercise and you feel like punished.

3. Planning

It is best you plan ahead and preferable before the Christmas holiday. You need time to create a plan and if you plan the first of January or a few days, it will set you in the mood of celebrations and you will plan resolutions which doesn't fit you. Once you have decided your New Year's resolution you need to create a good plan to accomplish you goal. For example, you want to lose weight; you need to create a plan to cut fat and calories. You need to change your diet and also more exercising will help you to reach your goal.

4. Write down on paper

Once you have made your plan to reach your goal you can write everything on paper and put a reminder on your desk. This will help you to follow your plan and it is important you write all the necessary details down. For example, if your resolution is a certain exercise plan; it is best you write everything in a notebook. Weather circumstances, your weight before and after the exercise, your progress and everything which can be important to adapt your plan
