Poetry: On love

by Dawn H. Swinnie

A thousand wishes couldn't guess my love for you
sweetly resting on my heart like morning dew
A song that's sung for all the world to hear
like a tiny music box playing in my ear
words could never tell what love is like
a picture would only describe it in the dark
a gentle wind raining goose bumps across my arm
an intoxicating melody that should never end
If you were to ever disconnect this love
send grounds shaking and earthquakes from above
the love we have can no longer be alive
it will be poached, pounded and set aside
but love is a mysterious matter
placing pieces back together
making hearts new again
giving love a second chance
to reshape and grow again
