You held me close,
you whispered in my ear.
I wanted to cry-
mostly out of joy, but also from fear.
You looked into my eyes,
and brought a smile to my lips
so effortlessly.
That moment...it was bliss.
But the night had to end
and soon I was dreaming
of what no longer was real;
what now had no meaning.
Your soft embrace
is left as fleeting
as a mere memory-
the very thing I'm afraid of being.
