When buying a new MP3 player, there are a number of things to consider. One important feature is storage capacity. Are you going to put your entire CD collection onto your MP3 player or just a few downloaded songs? If you are going to store movies or television shows on your MP3 player (such as on an iPod video player) you should probably go for a player with at least a few gigabytes on it, as these files tend to be large. Some MP3 players also have file storage capacity.
If you are going to rely on your MP3 player to back up files or hold a lot of data, you may want to go for a brand name player or one that you know is reliable. A player that has 256 megabytes stores far less than one with 80 gigabytes. If you take a look at some of the music files on your computer you will see that they are around 3 megabytes each. Depending on the amount of music you expect to add to the player/acquire over the years of its use, you can estimate how much storage space you will need.
You should also consider how you are going to use your player. Will it be at work at your desk, or will you take it with you when you jog? If you are an active, on the go person, you may want to consider a small, portable model with a case. If you will be using your player in your car, you may want one that is easy to shuffle through or find songs on. Players also have different options for connecting to a computer or car stereo or battery charger. Some use USB chords while others require special chords specific to that player. Some of the smaller players are actually USB drives that can plug directly into your computer.
Consider whether you think you will misplace a chord, and how frequently, because that is a cost that could add up. Also, if you will be using your player in multiple areas, consider the compatibility of the player with other brands that manufacture MP3 player accessories, such as car kits or portable radio's. Also, you want a player that is compatible with your computer. That way it will be easier to transfer files onto the player. Some players are mac and pc compatible but some are only pc friendly.
Once you have an idea of the features you are looking for in a MP3 player, you should start researching products within your targeted price range. A good way to start is by looking at a local store or on a website that you would consider purchasing from to see what they have to offer. Then research that product online or ask around to find out what other people are using or recommending.
More than price, the important thing is that the player is the one you want. If you are unhappy with your player, its not unlikely that in a few years you will start thinking about purchasing the one you wanted in the 1st place. Take your time to really consider what you want, as players can be expensive. If the one you want is out of your price range, consider purchasing an older model or waiting until the price goes down. Some companies, like apple, offer refurbished products on their website for a discounted price.
