Installation of outdoor carpeting - So simple a child could do it!
Well, no, not really, but definitely within the realm of possibility for any moederately coordinated adult.
First of all, consider the absolute necessities. Obviously, you will need to select the carpet. Long gone are the days of the plastic, fake green grass carpeting. Today's options include a large selection of colors, patterns, designs and textures. Let your creative self go wild. As with most purchases in life, there are always the good, the better, and the best classifications from which to choose. The better the quality going into the project, the longer lasting the outcome. Another important factor in carpet selection is the amount of wear and tear, abuse and weather exposure to which the carpet may be subjected. Durability is always a good investment.
Once you've made your selection at the carpet store, you'll need to make a stop at the hardware store before heading home to start your project.
Some tools will be necessities: utility knife, scissors, tape measure, double-faced carpet tape, adhesive.
Some tools you may be able to do without, but doing so will leave you with less than satisfying results: adhesive solvent, adhesive for the seams, cleaning solvent to treat the surface before beginning the installation, straight edge tool.
One tool that is totally optional but provides a fine finishing touch is a 50 lb carpet roller. Your seam seals will never be as tight without it as they will be with it.
Once you've assembled your carpet and your tools, you will be ready to start this home improvement project. Speed should not be one of your goals as you strive for long-lasting, optimal results.
Choose a temperate day for your project. Avoid days of high humidity or temperatures in the 40's or below.
First things first - Prepare the surface to be carpeted. Remove everything from the floor space you intend to carpet. Use the cleaning solvent to remove any dirt or old glue from the floor surface. Allow the area to dry completely before proceeding.
Roll out your carpet in the area where you intend to install it. Let it sit for a couple of hours to breathe and expand. This might be a good time for your extended lunch break.
After lunch, unroll some of that double faced tape. Edge the room with the tape and place it in strips down the center of the blocked installation area. Space the tape strips eighteen to twenty-four inches apart. Be sure to keep the top layer of protective paper intact.
Now it's time

When I think of outdoor carpet, I have to chuckle. It takes me back to the early 1970's and the early days of outdoor carpeting.
