Later that night back in her apartment, Deirdre was sitting on her daybed couch, feet up, sipping a glass of red wine and enjoying an evening to herself. Herself and her cat, Delilah, who was curled up with her back paws pressing into the soles of Deirde's feet. Content to just lie there and do nothing, she simply flicked back and forth the end of her tail every now and then in response to her name being cooed. What else did a girl need really? A glass of wine, a movie and a cuddling cat. This is what Deirdre was thinking to herself even as she caressed her cell phone, opening it up, searching for the number in her address book, looking at the number glowing green. She took another sip of her wine "So," she asked Delilah, "Jack is back, what do you have to say about that?" The cat showed her skepticism with the very slight raising of an eyelid. "I agree. Must proceed with caution." Deirdre snapped the cell phone shut and settled further into the cushions forcing herself to focus on the movie she was watching and not the visions of her old lover dancing through her head.

She felt like she was suffocating, someone or some force holding her up against it with such strength that air was being pushed from her lungs. She felt trapped, disaster and danger all around. And then a bright white light etched itself across the horizon, almost like lightning. It held for only a brief moment, but it was long enough for Deirdre to see that whatever the light touched started to make sense again. Whatever was illuminated was clear and without threat. The glaring beam of light, bright and too difficult to look at on its own, brought a smoother, softer illumination to whatever it touched. Then it was gone. But even in its wake, the chaos around her seemed a little more subdued. The heavy feeling in her chest was lifting ever so slightly. She felt just about to grasp onto a hint of meaning, when she came out of the sleep state as if from out of a trance. Her eyes were tired and unable to focus at first as they slowly opened. She felt a rough wet lick on her nose and found Delilah stretched
