Make him smile. Organise a delicious brunch for Father's Day for Dad so he's surrounded by the people and the food he loves.
With a little bit of planning and preparation it doesn't need to be a stressful day. Instead it is a chance for all of you to enjoy it, not just Dad. It will bring the family together and provide a delightful feast of memories. Go on invest a bit of time and make it a day to remember. Show him you care.
First of all, think of the kind of man you're Dad is. Is he a quiet man who would prefer the intimacy of his wife and children? Or would he like a big gang of people? Sisters, brothers, cousins. Ask him unless you're planning on a surprise. Ring up the people you want if there are going to be a number of guests.
Is it indoors or outdoors? If your father is the kind of person who loves the outdoors then weather permitting bring out the garden furniture, decorate the table and have a pleasant meal outside. If he'd rather be indoors then have a Happy Father's Day banner and purchase some balloons to show you love him. Buy in the food and drinks he likes and you are ready for the day. Once you've decided what he'd like and who you're going to invite then you can begin those preparations.
The night before blow up those balloons, decorate the room and peel any vegetables. Seeing that you have started preparations when you wake up will make you feel calmer. Enlist the help of any of the family. Get out those plates, paper or crockery and have them ready for the morning when you serve the food.
On the day allow him to have the luxury of a lie in whilst you prepare the brunch. Take up a drink of fruitjuice or coffee for him when he wakes up. Have boxes of his favourite cereal. A cooked breakfast always smells inviting whether it is bacon, hash browns and eggs sizzling, or veggie sausages and beans. If he has a sweet tooth treat him to pancakes, muffins or any other treats he loves eating.
When he joins the family remind him how much you love him and all the things you are thankful for. Make him feel appreciated. If you're not quite ready for everyone to eat then hand out the presents you've bought before instead of after brunch. Later enlist some help and dish out the food. If there's a large crowd you might want to have a table for everyone pick what they want. Eat, unswind and relax. Laugh, take photos and him him a Father's Day full of memories. Ignore the washing up spend time enjoying your Father's company whilst you can.
