Do-it-yourself Father's Day cards

I am sure that you have memory of venturing into the current holiday area of your local card or drugstore. The experience can be overwhelming to say the least. Do you want a religious card? A mushy card? How about serious, or funny? In each of these catagories there seem to be hundreds of cards. Ever stood in that aisle for large amounts of time, read tons of cards, and come up with none that fit the relationship you have with your dad? Or that your kids have with theirs? Father's Day is a day to make the Dad in your life feel loved and special. Buying him a generic card that says little about the way your life really is will do little to make him feel this way. Don't despair, just because you can't find this perfect card doesn't mean you won't be able to give it to your dad on his special day-you're just goign to have to be a bit more creative.

A perfect solution to this problem is to make your own card. Some of the more well known sites like hallmark.com and bluemountain.com have sections that offer free downloadable cards that can be printed off and colored in for Dad. There are also a wide variety of other sites that offer printable cards and craft to make for Father's Day. kidscrafts.com is a great one to start off with, or simply put printable Father's Day cards in any search engine and you should have thousands of options. Always remember to be vigilant about what you download to your computer, and what links you click on. The last thing you want for Father's Day is a virus in your computer.

You can also use Microsoft Word or other typing programs to make your own cards and print them right on your own printer. If your kids are old enough and tech savvy enough, you can have them add words and graphics to personalize their cards in any way they want. If you are feeling especially creative, you can make the cards have pop-out features to make it more unique. Use glitter, stickers, glue and anything else you might think of to make Dad's card uniquely his, and a true representation of his children and what he means to them.

For those of you who quake at the thought of using a PC, relax, this is one area where computer knowedge is not required. Paper, crayons and scissors will also work great to make Dad a card he will love. Write a list, or have the kids write a list, of all the reasons Dad is loved as much as he is. Make it into a poem, or simply use colorful crayons or colored pencils, and write the list on the card. Dad will love his own personalized card saying why he is the best Dad in the world.
