It is that time of year where fathers are anxiously awaiting their day and mothers and children are scrambling to find something that that will make the dad in their life smile on his day. What better way to bring a smile to his face than to have his children make him something with their own little hands?
There are more things that you and your kids can make than you might think. One of the easiest options is making something for dad's office. You can clean an empty vegetable can and remove the label. You then cut a piece of paper to fit and have your children color Dad a picture. You then simply affix the paper to the cup, making a custom made pencil holder. You can apply the same ideas and make Dad a frame to go around a favorite picture. Then not only will Dad have the handmade frame to remind him of home but also a picture of one (or more) of his favorite people in the world.
Another idea for the office is to take two paper plates, cut one in half and have the kids decorate both halves. You then attach the half plate to the whole, affix a ribbon, and you have a wall mountable pocket Dad can put beside his desk to insert paperwork. You could also have the children gather several small rocks. After washing and drying the rocks, have the kids paint them in any colors or patterns they might choose. These will make great paperweights for his desk.
If your dad is not the office type, you could always make him some hand made coupons for things like, "One hour of the TV channel of your choice" or "One Car Wash". You can be creative and use things that will put a smile on the face of the dad in your life. If Dad has a sweet tooth, consider baking some brownies or cookies with the kids. You can have the kids decorate some paper sacks to give them a festive air.
Sure, you could run out to the nearest store and buy a gift, avoiding all the time and mess that might come with making your own gift. Something that his child makes, however, is worth the extra time and mess, as it something he will hold dear forever. Remember, your kids will never again be as young as they are this Father's Day. Any mess they might make can be cleaned up easily enough, but if you miss out on these days nothing you can do will ever get them back. Make sure to grap each day of your children's youth and make it the best it can be, for them as well as for yourself. No matter what you give for a Father's Day gift, make sure it lets Dad know how much he is loved and appreciated.
